Review of the Apps Britinnica Kids:Knights and Castles and Smithsonian
I watched the the Youtube video about the different types of apps to use in the classroom to teach about Ancient Civilizations. I loved the videos the provided many different apps that I want to use someday in my future classroom. I found two different apps that I found really cool and versatile in teaching. The first was the Briticannica Kids apps each app covers a different subject. The second was the Smithsonian's app that covers interesting things in the museums. The catalog of videos was impressive but also over whelming because I couldn't decide which video to watch.
Briticannica Kids: Knights and Castles
This app is AMAZING!! I love using it is interactive and engaging even for me. On the app there are multiple games that students can play. On the app there are also multiple resources like a map and articles section.
The app does cost money but only $1.99 which I am on the fence for if it is worth the money to buy it if it only covers one subject. The app is available on all platforms so everyone can use it. The pros of this app are that it is interactive and engaging. The Cons are that it costs money and it only covers one subject.
A teacher can use this app to teacher their students about castles and knights by having it as a resource for their students to use when researching things. The app can also a fun thing to use when students have some down time to play games/puzzles.
The Apps website can be found here.
Bottom Line is that I would buy this app if you are going to spend more than a week covering knights and castles in your classroom because it is an amazing app but it costs some money.

Smithsonian
I didn't like the Smithsonian app it felt more like a museum guide than a interactive app for children. The app lacked games and engaging things that a teacher is looking for in an app. The app is free so that is a nice thing about it. The coolest thing on the app is the find the closet Smithsonian feature.
As you can see the closet Smithsonian is pretty far from Manhattan, Kansas but if you are a teacher that teaches closer to some Smithsonian museums this would be a really cool feature for you to help encourage your students to go to them. The pros of the app is that is has the closet smithsonian museum feature and it describes and shows what are in the Smithsonian's. The cons are that it isn't very engaging and it would be difficult to use in a lesson.
I would recommend going to the Smithsonian's website because it is more engaging and resourceful than the app is.
The bottom line is that I wouldn't get this app unless you live closer to Smithsonian museums.
